Here are a few recipes that might be able to help with your low thyroid function. Bon appetit!
Half an onion
1 clove garlic, grated
Lemon/lime juice, fresh
This is a quick and easy 10-minute recipe that will impress houseguests. The avocado is great for your thyroid too. Just chop and mash up all the ingredients in a bowl, then throw a couple of sprigs of cilantro on top for presentation.
2 bananas, mashed
1 1/2 cups brown rice flour
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup brown rice, old fashioned
3 egg whites
1/2 cup raisins
1/3 cup applesauce
1/3 cup chopped up Brazil nuts
1 tsp cinnamon
All the ingredients in this recipe are excellent for thyroid function. especially Iodine in the bananas and the Selenium in the Brazil nut.
Combine all wet ingredients: banana, apple sauce, eggs and vanilla. Set aside. Now combine the remaining dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add the dry mixture to wet mixture slowly, and stir until the two are just combined.
Spray loaf pan with non-stick spray and pour in the cake mixture. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), until the top is brown and there are cracks along the top.
1 can of lima beans
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 to 2 cloves minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 cup finely minced parsley leaves
1 tablespoon paprika
This is a great, low fat, hummus snack. The lima beans are an excellent source of Tyrosine for your thyroid, and will also stabilize your blood sugar levels.
Just take all the above ingredients (except the parsley) and blend until pureed.
Then take out of the blender and mix in the parsley leaves, and leave in the refrigerator for a few hours. Lastly, add the paprika as a garnish and serve with chopped vegetables like carrots or celery.
1 cup of brown rice
15 cherry tomatoes
Few sprigs cilantro
2 garlic cloves (minced)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lemon (squeezed)
A delicious recipe with brown rice and avocado, both essential for your thyroid.
Cook brown rice as directed. Mix all ingredients together, then season to taste and serve on a flat plate. This should serve 2 people, and at 300 calories each its great for a light lunch or dinner.
1 Medium Onion, finely chopped
2 Large Carrots, grated
1 Leek, finely chopped
4 New Potatoes, grated
1 can of Flageolet Beans, drained
1 Organic Vegetable Stock Cube, mixed with 1ltr of boiled water.
Salt/Pepper to season
2 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Put 1 tbsp of the olive oil into the pot and sauté the onions over a medium heat for approx 4 minutes. Add the grated potatoes and carrots and cook for a further 5 minutes, then add the leek/celery and heat until all of the vegetables are al dente (approx 3 mins).
Pour in the vegetable stock and keep on the heat until it boils, then take off the heat and slowly puree in your blender. Once it's all been blended to your liking, pour back into the pot and place over a low heat. You can add in Chilli flakes now if you wish (they increase your metabolism) and extra salt/pepper to taste.
Once it's boiling again, add in the can of Flageolet Beans and cook for a further 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow to sit for a few minutes before serving.
1 lemon (squeezed)
Half a chili pepper (optional)
1 garlic clove or as much as desired (optional)
1 glass of water
This a delicious, easy drink to make. Add all ingredients into the blender and voila!
For a little variety, try it with some cilantro, parsley, mint or any other raw food of your choice.
Tomato, sliced in half
Goat cheese is a good source of Tyrosine, an amino acid that's essential for your thyroid.
Cut tomato in half and place on a bed of rocket. Drizzle some pesto sauce on it, then add a slice of goat cheese. Put in the oven for a few minutes until cheese softens.
